South Carolina quarterback commit Brandon McIlwain announced on Thursday that he will enroll at USC in January, but the Gamecocks could still add another quarterback for the 2016 class.

One candidate is Dorman’s Collin Hill, who has heard regularly from the Gamecocks’ new staff in recent weeks.

Carolina offensive coordinator Kurt Roper watched film of the 6-foot-4, 205-pound signal caller and came away impressed by what he saw.

“They’ve been saying just that they were going to start recruiting me and Coach Roper liked me and they liked my film,” Hill said. “They said they’re going to keep building a relationship with me.”

USC offensive line coach Shawn Elliott recruited Hill this past season, but Steve Spurrier and the previous staff elected not to offer Hill a scholarship.

He also has a relationship with running backs coach Bobby Bentley from Bentley’s time coaching in the Upstate.

“I actually have never met Coach Muschamp, but when we were practicing for the state game Coach Roper came and watched me practice,” Hill said. “I’ve known Coach Elliott for a while, and I know Coach Bentley really well. I’ve known him since I was little.”

Hill threw for more than 3,500 yards this past season with 35 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. He also rushed for 158 yards and four scores.

Hill is committed to Colorado State but said he would be open to considering other schools if they were to offer.

“I’d think about it. If anyone did I would definitely listen and see what they had to offer, but as of now I’m solid,” he said.

Hill will play in the Shrine Bowl Saturday afternoon in Spartanburg. While he is anxious to play in the game, the experience has already been life-changing for him.

“For me going to the hospital definitely put things in perspective,” he said. “It just kind of reinforced that football’s just a game and there’s a lot bigger things. What those kids go through is real. It was really cool to experience that.”
