South Pointe DB to enroll early at South Carolina

South Pointe defensive back Chris Smith will enroll early at South Carolina after all.

Stallions coach Strait Herron posted the news on Twitter and confirmed to The State he received a call Monday evening from USC coach Will Muschamp letting him know Smith was welcome to enroll early.

Last month, Smith was told he would have to wait until February to sign with South Carolina or find another school to enroll at in January.

For a short time he opened up his recruitment before reaffirming his commitment to the Gamecocks last week.

The Shrine Bowl selection said he knew if he stayed patient everything would work out for the best.

“It’s a great deal that everything worked out so I don’t have to be idle for a whole semester,” he told The State.

Smith will report to Columbia on Tuesday.
