Byrnes’ Chavis Dawkins signs with South Carolina, his ‘dream school’
Shrine Bowl wide receiver Chavis Dawkins out of Byrnes High School has signed with South Carolina. He grew up a fan of the Gamecocks and after receiving a late offer from Will Muschamp committed to USC.
Dawkins was recruited by former Byrnes coach Bobby Bentley, who is now the running backs coach at South Carolina.
“It is my dream school. I’ve always wanted to go to South Carolina,” Dawkins said. “When Coach Bentley first got the job he came to see me. I call him and we talk a lot.”
Dawkins committed to USC Jan. 9. He was set to sign with N.C. State before receiving a late offer from the Gamecocks. In addition to South Carolina and N.C. State Dawkins had offers from Louisville, Wake Forest, Appalachian State, Georgia Southern and others.
He is rated as a three-star prospect according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.
Dawkins led the Sandlappers in receiving in the Shrine Bowl with six catches for 62 yards and two touchdowns. As a senior for the Rebels he caught 73 passes for 1,319 yards and 17 touchdowns.
