Kiel Pollard signs: ‘It was South Carolina the whole time’
Wide receiver Kiel Pollard has officially signed with South Carolina, the school confirmed Wednesday.
Pollard, from Moultrie, Ga., flipped from Arkansas to the Gamecocks late last month.
Pollard (6-0, 232) was one of the top offensive players in Georgia last season. He was named the 6A Offensive Player of the Year after, helping lead Colquitt County High to the state championship with 76 catches for 1,163 yards and 18 touchdowns.
Will Muschamp and Bobby Bentley had hardly settled into their new jobs when they set their sights on Pollard, who had already been committed to Arkansas for several months. Bryan McClendon, who had recruited Pollard while at Georgia, joined the effort in January.
“I kind of knew as soon as they came into the picture. I just waited until I took my official visit,” Pollard said Wednesday. “It was South Carolina the whole time.”
Pollard knows the slate is clean at USC with a new coaching staff and that jobs will be open. He’s looking forward to the opportunity and expects to contribute early.
“I know the coaches want to win. If they want to win, they’re going to give the ball to the best players,” he said.
Pollard is a three-star prospect, according to 247Sports’ Composite ranking, which factors in all networks.
