Top USC target Jamyest Williams sets decision date

Defensive back Jamyest Williams will kick off his senior season with a splash.

Williams will announce his college commitment at 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, just three hours before his Grayson High School Rams host IMG Academy in the first game of the 2016 season.

The four-star cornerback revealed his decision date via Twitter on Tuesday night, with South Carolina among his finalists:

Williams, of Loganville, Ga., last visited USC in July for Will Muschamp’s prospect cookout.

“That went very well,” Williams said after the visit. “It really wasn’t too much on recruiting with Coach Muschamp. We had a lot of activities going on. There were a lot of commits and it was good talking to them. They were telling me it’s a great opportunity and a tremendous environment outside of football.”

He has been trending toward the Gamecocks in 247Sports’ Crystal Ball predictions since early July when he attended The Opening in Oregon. Williams told The State last month that he has a strong relationship with Muschamp and defensive coordinator Travaris Robinson, and he likes USC’s pitch to be a difference-maker in the class. They want him to become one of the first top prospects to make the jump with this staff and team, to be one others could follow.
