Basketball recruiting notes: Tevin Mack, Travon Bunch, Jamall Gregory
Dreher High’s Tevin Mack had his first in-person meeting with a recruiter Friday as he begins round two of his recruiting after getting a release from his letter of intent with VCU.
Texas assistant Mike Morell, who joined Shaka Smart in the move from VCU to Texas, met with Mack for most of the day at his school, according to Mack’s mother, Paula Mack. Morell later met with Ms. Mack at her work.
Many have believed this would be a quick decision for Mack and that he would simply transfer his allegiance with Smart from VCU to Texas. But no pledge was made Friday, according to Paula Mack. Tevin Mack does not have any official visits left, but his mother does want him to go check out Texas before making a decision.
“I want him to go see it to see how it is,” she said.
Oklahoma State is scheduled to visit with Mack on Sunday. Clemson coach Brad Brownell has been in touch recently, as has USC assistant coach Lamont Evans, according to Ms. Mack.
▪ USC commitment Travon Bunch (6-11) of Racine, Wis., has not yet signed his letter of intent, according to his coach at Score Academy in Chapel Hill. Coach Tony Taylor said there is no problem and that Bunch should sign the LOI within a few days.
▪ Small forward/shooting guard Jamall Gregory of Washington, D.C., signed with USC earlier this week, Frank Martin confirmed via Twitter.
