Recruiting notebook: Seventh Woods, CJ Freeman, more
South Carolina has become strongly involved with power forward Aric Holman (6-9) of Owensboro, Ky., and he told 247Sports at a tournament in Fishers, Ind., over the weekend he will take an official visit with the Gamecocks this Tuesday through Thursday.
Holman is planning to attend Hargrave Prep, Va., this fall to build up his slim frame at the advice of some coaches, but he wants to take some official visits before finalizing his plans. He has been to Louisville several times and is also hearing from Texas, Xavier, Cincinnati and Auburn. USC coach Frank Martin watched Holman over the weekend.
▪ 2016 USC target Seventh Woods (6-1) of Hammond played in a tournament in Louisville over the weekend and told media there that while still open, USC and North Carolina were at the top of the list and he did not have a favorite. Woods said he’s not close to making any decision and denied Internet chatter that he was close to committing to the Gamecocks. USC’s Frank Martin and UNC's Roy Williams had in home visits with Woods in the past three weeks.
▪ USC is one of the 11 finalists for 2016 power forward Dewan Huell (6-10) of Miami. He listed on his Twitter page his finalists, in no order, as USC, Miami, Florida, Florida State, Louisville, Kansas, Notre Dame, South Florida, North Carolina, LSU and Maryland.
▪ USC commitment RB CJ Freeman of Greensboro visited Virginia Tech Saturday for the spring game but said he remains firm with his Gamecocks pledge.
▪ Gamecocks commitment WR Kyle Davis of Lawrenceville, Ga., took in Tennessee’s spring game Saturday. Davis remains committed but is still looking at his options.
▪ LB target TJ Brunson of Richland Northeast visited North Carolina Saturday.
