Former Oregon receiver commit ‘totally surprised about everything’ on USC visit

Former Oregon wide receiver commitment Warren Thompson of Seffner, Fla., made his official visit to South Carolina over the weekend.

The Gamecocks are very much in the mix with him along with Florida State and Tennessee, and he won’t reveal a decision until National Signing Day on Feb. 7.

“It was good, I really liked it. I was totally surprised about everything, in a good way ... the town and everything,” Thompson said. “I liked the coaches. Coach Muschamp, the receivers coach, I liked everything about it. I liked the facilities and everything.”

Thompson is a big receiver, listed at 6-5, 190, and the Gamecock coaches laid out a role for him in their offense.

“Just physical, you know, them being the SEC, physicality and stuff like that,” he said.

Thompson said he will spend the coming week sorting through all the information he has on the programs and talking things over with his mother.

“This week is to grasp everything and think everything out,” he said. “I wouldn’t say a favorite. I’m taking this opportunity to lay everything out on the table and take it for what it is. I would say trust and which one I’m more comfortable with” (are important factors).

Thompson said the visit did elevate USC in his thinking at this point.

“They offered me, like my fourth of fifth offer, and we kind of talked and then it stopped when I was committed to Oregon,” Thompson said. “Then they came on in the last two months and they caught me by storm.”

Thompson said he’s expecting Florida State to visit Monday. Muschamp has already had his in-home visit. Thompson actually saw the Gamecocks practice during their bowl stay in Tampa.
