Long-standing South Carolina commit not a given to sign in February
Covington, Ga. offensive lineman Lamarius Benson has been a long-standing South Carolina commitment. But it’s not a given he will sign with the Gamecocks on Feb. 7 because of apparent dissatisfaction with his weight and his decision to take a visit over the weekend to Central Florida.
“The visit to Central Florida went good,” Benson said. “I liked the campus and the coaches. They said they could see me in their program.”
Bensonis publicly still committed to the Gamecocks, and he talked with offensive line coach Eric Wolford on Sunday, but nothing is definite with him right now.
“I’m still making my mind up,” he said. “We’ll see in a week. Coach Wolford said he still wants me.”
Benson said Central Florida is coming for a visit this week. He said he is not expecting USC coaches to visit this week. And he does not have an official visit planned for the coming weekend.
“He said he still wants me but to get in shape and stuff,” Benson said of Wolford. “I weigh 315 pounds and they want me under that. He said he likes my power. I just have to use it the right way.”
