One of the underclassmen in to see South Carolina football last weekend was Gainesville, Fla. 2019 wide receiver Jalen Kelsey (6-foot-1, 170 pounds). Last season he caught 49 passes for 949 yards and nine touchdowns. Valdosta State was the first to offer him but now bigger schools are starting to show interest.
“The players showed me a lot and I felt like I was home,” Kelsey said of his visit to USC. “I could see myself playing here.”
Kelsey said he’s also drawing interest from North Carolina, Florida, Oregon State, Boston College, Cincinnati, South Florida, Central Florida and Kentucky. His early favorites are the Gamecocks, Florida, South Florida and Kentucky.
“I’ll be looking for a good bonding with the coaches and the team,” he said.
Kelsey said USC had invited him up for games last season but he couldn’t make any because of his own schedule. But Gamecock recruiter Mike Peterson stayed on him and he finally made it in last weekend.
“He’s a good coach. I’ve known him since I was little,” Kelsey said. “He’s shown me the right path and I’ve actually bonded with him since I’ve known him a long time.”
Kelsey said he does not yet know if he will sign early.
