This kicker can hit from 50-plus yards. South Carolina will take closer look
Moultrie, Ga. kicker Ryan Fitzgerald was contacted by South Carolina special teams coach Coleman Hutzler, who told him he's going to try to come down Friday to check in on him.
Fitzgerald said he will visit USC for a spring practice. He's going to Mississippi State for a junior day and is also looking at visits to Tennessee and Purdue. He's also hearing from Georgia Southern.
Fitzgerald plays for Colquitt County, alma mater of Gamecocks tight end Kiel Pollard. As a junior, Fitzgerald connected on 49-of-50 extra points and 18-of-25 field goals, with at least two makes longer than 52 yards and at least five longer than 43.
His long for the season was a 60-yarder on a free kick in a 12-7 win where he went 4-for-5.
