Point guard Tookie Brown of Madison, Ga., has emerged as a potential addition to South Carolina’s 2015 basketball recruiting class after taking an unofficial visit to Columbia last week.
Brown (5-11) was committed to Mississippi State but dropped that pledge after the Bulldogs’ coaching change. USC became interested and invited him for a visit.
The Gamecocks have not offered and might be waiting to see what 6-foot-10 center Eric Cobb does before moving forward with Brown.
“He’s very interested in South Carolina,” Morgan County coach Jamond Sims said. “It’s been a topic of conversation with him the past couple of days. He met with Coach Martin and Coach Evans to see what South Carolina has to offer. They’ve not offered. They still have an offer out on the table with another potential recruit. It’s one of those things that you have to let play its way out.”

Brown visited Georgia Southern on Tuesday, according to his coach, and has also been to Georgia State. Ole Miss and Memphis also are showing interest, but USC left a strong impression on Brown.
“He had nothing but good things to say about South Carolina,” Sims said. “I think he really got a good feel for Coach Martin and got a chance to watch some of the guys and how hard they compete in the weight room and watch some film and see what they do offensively.”
What Brown does offensively is score. He was the Georgia 3A player of the year after averaging 28 points per game.
