Gamecocks coaches go on quarterback spree, offer trio of signal callers
South Carolina’s football staff already as quarterbacks committed for 2019 and 2020.
This week, Gamecocks coaches sent out another batch of offers to passers farther down the road.
USC offered 2021 LaGrange Park, Il. passer J.J. McCarthy, 2022 quarterback Ty Simpson out of Martin, Tenn and 2022 Thomasville, Ga. passer Chad Mascoe.
McCarthy’s offers also include Indiana, Iowa State and Cincinnati. He’s also drawing strong interest from Notre Dame. He made his first high school start last Friday and threw at least once touchdown against St. Louis-are power Lutheran North.
Simpson also counts Baylor, Kentucky, Mississippi State, LSU, Tennessee, Michigan and Vanderbilt among his reported offers. Michigan offered when he was in eighth grade. He camped at USC earlier this summer. In his first high school start, Simpson went 10-for-15 for 112 yards and added 128 yards and two scores on the ground.
Mascoe (6-foot, 180 pounds) also holds Florida State and Southern Miss offers. He camped at Clemson. In two games, he’s thrown for 375 yards, four touchdowns and two interceptions on 29-of-52 passing.
