Pittsburgh pass rusher coming to Columbia, hoping to leave with South Carolina offer
Defensive end A.J. Beatty (6-foot-2, 255 pounds) has some major offers, but nothing out of the SEC thus far. That could change this weekend when he visits South Carolina with his mother and grandmother. It will be his first look at the Gamecocks up close, and after seeing them from afar, he wants to take a closer look at what Will Muschamp and company have to offer.
“Coach Bentley has been the main coach recruiting me,” Beatty said. “He just told me that he really liked my film and it stood out. I hope to enjoy the very nice weather this weekend and get to meet the awesome coaching staff.”
Beatty has offers from Pitt, Temple, Purdue, Air Force, Rutgers, Boston College, Princeton, Syracuse, West Virginia, Navy, FAU and North Carolina. A USC offer no doubt would put the Gamecocks in a good place with him.
“In my opinion, South Carolina is one of my favorite colleges,” Beatty said. “We are very familiar with South Carolina because we have a condo in Myrtle Beach, so we’re there quite a lot.”
Beatty also has visited Purdue, West Virginia, Pitt and Penn State, and he plans to visit North Carolina, Boston College, Syracuse, Indiana and West Virginia again soon. He’s looking at late summer or in the fall for making his decision.
