Class of 2021 quarterback Colten Gauthier of Dacula, Georgia, made a return visit to South Carolina on Saturday to further show off his strong right arm in front of head coach Will Muschamp and quarterbacks coach Dan Werner.
The two were already convinced Gauthier could win for them since they offered in May. Saturday gave Gauthier a chance to further develop his relationships with the two, and for his mother to get a good look at things.
“This visit, my mom was able to come,” Gauthier said. “While I was throwing for Muschamp and Werner, she was getting the tour of academics, weight room and the nutritionist before lunch. At the end of camp, we all came together and went on a tour of campus and met with Coach Muschamp and Coach Werner in Muschamp’s office. We were also able to sit and talk to Marcus Lattimore about life after football.”
They also talked about life after these June camps and visits — and where things stand with him in regard to his Gamecock offer.
“I love the way Coach Werner coaches,” Gauthier said. “He’s very likable and very personable and makes things very easy with the footwork. He said he was very pleased with my performance and would love if I came to play for him at USC. Muschamp talked to us about how important I am in the 2021 class, and if I committed he would accept.
“Again, I love South Carolina. We as a family, my head coach Jeff Saturday and my OC John Russ (who was also on the visit) are going to sit down over the next few days and discuss all options. I can tell you South Carolina is a high priority.”
Gauthier said he also spent a lot of time at the camp with Gamecock 2021 receiver commitment Lovasea Carroll, and they’ve become close since playing in an all-star game after last season.
Gauthier also has offers from Vanderbilt, UCF, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, Louisville, Syracuse, Kentucky, Pitt, Georgia Tech, Miami, Duke, Colorado and Boston College. This month he’s also been to Duke, Miami, Vanderbilt and UCF.
