South Carolina puts out two offers to pass rushers, one who could play next year

South Carolina football offered a pair of players Tuesday, one in the 2020 class and one in the 2021 class. The ’20 offer went to defensive end Yaya Diaby (6-foot-4, 260 pounds), a native of Riverdale, Georgia who attends Georgia Military College. It’s well known the Gamecocks have been waiting on decisions from defensive end Reggie Grimes of Brentwood, Tennessee and Jordan Burch of Hammond. The Gamecocks may have concerns about Grimes and Burch and thus reached out to Diaby, or they might want him on his own merit.

“They (Gamecocks) are in the game and he likes them,” said GMC coach Bert Williams. “They definitely have a shot. His recruitment has really taken off the last 5-6 weeks with many FBS offers. Physically he is a nice combination of speed, length and power in a frame that is still developing. He was a wide receiver in high school and only has about 16 months of defensive line training. He had two good years of development here with two defensive line coaches that played professionally. He also has a great attitude and is a work ethic guy too.”

Diaby also has offers from Tennessee, Kansas State, Memphis, Louisville, which has visited officially last weekend, Arizona, Utah, West Virginia, Hawaii, Charlotte and Western Kentucky,

Diaby led the Bulldogs this season with 58 tackles. He also had a team high 16 tackles for loss along with five sacks.

For the ’21 class, the Gamecocks offered linebacker/wide receiver Jabril McNeill (6-foot-4, 210 pounds) of Raleigh, North Carolina. The offer seems to have put the Gamecocks in a good place with McNeill at this point in his recruiting.

“I liked South Carolina growing up. That’s what makes this so special to me,” McNeill said. “And it’s my first SEC offer. What they like about me is I’m tall but I can run. And I’m still 16, so they know I still have a lot of potential in me.”

This season McNeill has been to Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, North Carolina, Duke and NC State. He also has offers from Virginia Tech and Appalachian State.
