Columbia-area recruit had 17 sacks last season and is looking for Gamecocks offer
South Carolina’s second junior day of the month didn’t attract the large number of big names of the previous weekend. Head coach Will Muschamp wasn’t even there because he was with his son on an official visit to Colorado State. But the Gamecocks still had some top targets in like tight end Robbie Ouzts of Rock Hill, linebacker Jabril McNeill of Raleigh and running back Jaylin White of Dothan, Alabama.
Also in for a visit Saturday was Irmo defensive end Kaseem Vauls (6-1 240). Vauls moved to Irmo from Charlotte prior to last season and was one of the best defensive players in the state. He had 41 tackles with 18 tackles for loss and 17 sacks. He has 28 sacks over his last two seasons. He was named all-region and the Yellow Jackets’ Outstanding Defensive Player.
Vauls is looking for that first offer and he’s hoping he took that first step Saturday with the Gamecocks.
“My day went good over there,” Vauls said. “I was talking to the defensive line coach and linebackers coach, and I think it went very good. I think I will be looked at as an outside linebacker there. They like my size and my speed, my aggression, stuff like that.”
But the Gamecock coaches made no promises. Vauls said to get an offer from the Gamecocks, he’s going to have to earn it.
“I have to go to the one day camp for them to get interested,” he said. “I might go back next weekend. I like it a lot.”
Vauls said he’s also looking at Appalachian State and Georgia State. He visited both during this past season.
