South Carolina QB target visits this week to see Bobo, new offense at work

Class of 2021 quarterback Colten Gauthier of Dacula, Georgia has made multiple visits to South Carolina and he’s returning this week for another.

He was set to arrive Wednesday night and will be there Thursday when the Gamecocks are back on the practice field, and he’ll get to watch new quarterbacks coach Mike Bobo do his work in person. Clemson also is recruiting Gauthier and, like the Gamecocks, is interested in having him back on campus.

“I’ve been in contact with both Clemson and South Carolina weekly,” Gauthier said. “South Carolina talked about getting me to practice (Thursday) to see the new offense and sit down with Bobo. I talk to [Brandon] Streeter from Clemson often, and he’s just letting me know that I am still a priority, and they only have one offer right now to a 2021 QB (Caleb Williams).”

USC has offered Gauthier (6-3, 205), while Clemson has not. Both remain major factors with the three-star prospect as he works his way through the process. And there are several other programs on his mind as well.

“They are both great programs with great history and I am blessed that they are interested in me,” Gauthier said. “I hear a lot from UCF, Georgia tech, Auburn, Louisville, Arkansas, Miami, Michigan State, Colorado, Iowa, Indiana and Rutgers. They are all showing me an increased interest right now.

“But in the recruiting world, it is a roller coaster ride and it is a privilege to be on it. I would definitely like to have a decision sooner then later, but hopefully no later than the beginning of summer.”

Gauthier visited Auburn last Sunday. He plans to visit UCF on March 20. He also plans to visit the other schools he’s hearing from, as mentioned above, in the weeks to come. And he has a clear objective for his visits.

“I just really want to see how the coaches coach the players at all the schools,” Gauthier said.

Gauthier visited USC twice last season. He also visited in May and June. He made two visits to Clemson, once last summer and another during the season.
