Gamecocks target moves announcement back. USC leading for in-state defensive lineman

Wagener-Salley defensive end Elijah Davis (6-foot-4, 260 pounds) was offered by South Carolina midway through his junior season and the Gamecocks are in the lead position for his at this point. Davis said he has some academic work to make up in his senior year to avoid going first to junior college, but he’s determined to get that work done. If so, Columbia likely would be his destination.

“It definitely was pretty big,” Davis said of getting the offer from Will Muschamp. “It’s close to home. I’ve always been a Gamecock fan. It’s pretty good. I wanted to see what other offers I get that I may be interested in, but I have been thinking about committing.”

The other offers Davis has at this point are from West Virginia, Western Kentucky, Western Carolina, UT-Chattanooga, Georgia State and Campbell. He said he hears from new Gamecock defensive line coach Tracy Rocker regularly, and he hears good things from him.

“He says I’m a physical player, I can be active off the ball and have good hands, things like that,” Davis said. “He tells me he believes I can fit in their defense for pass rush and run stop. He said I could play both inside and outside.”

Davis was a dominant all-region performer last season totaling 112 tackles with 47 tackles for loss and 15 sacks. In the 247Sports Composite, he’s rated a three-star prospect, the No. 6 player in South Carolina and the No. 44 strongside defensive end in the country.

Monday night Ingram-Dawkins announced a final six of USC, North Carolina, Tennessee, Florida State, Georgia and Penn State. He also said he had made his decision and would reveal it on social media Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. But, Monday afternoon, Ingram-Dawkins tweeted he was moving too fast and need more time. “

I’ve decided to give my commitment a little more thought before making it on Sunday,” he wrote. “This is a life-changing decision that is very important to me.”

Ingram-Dawkins is one of the state’s top prospects for the 2021 class and is coming off a season of 70 tackles with 17 tackles for loss and eight sacks.
