South Carolina linebacker target sets visit for same weekend as another key target
The weekend of the Tennessee game at South Carolina in October is setting up to be a major recruiting weekend for Will Muschamp and company. Sumter defensive end Justus Boone said earlier this week he has set an official visit with the Gamecocks for that weekend. On Wednesday night, linebacker Tavareon Martin-Scott (6-foot-3, 215 pounds) of Gary, Indiana and Dodge City Community College (Kansas) revealed his plans to also visit the Gamecocks for that weekend.
Muschamp was one of the first major college coaches to offer Martin-Scott, and he and new linebackers coach Rod Wilson have kept an open line of communication with him.
“The coaches have been texting me every day, we’ve been having conversations every day, staying in touch,” Martin-Scott said. “Coach Muschamp texts me every day, and Coach Wilson. I have talked to Coach Wilson on some phone calls. We’ve talked like three times. Nothing major, just checking in.”
Being new to USC, Wilson has only seen Martin-Scott on tape, and has not met him in person. But the phone conversations between the two apparently have gone well.
“He tells me that he can’t wait for me to get there and work with him and be ready for me play,” Martin-Scott said. “He knows I’m going to work hard. Coach Wilson said I seem coachable because he has experienced us talking, so he already knows. He said he can’t wait for me to get there.”
Martin-Scott said West Virginia also his hot after him and he will take an official visit to Morgantown as well. He also plans to stop by Kansas State later this summer on his way back to Dodge City.
He also has offers from South Alabama, Ball State, Akron, Buffalo, Southesat Missouri State, Louisiana and Washington State, and he’s also hearing from Kentucky, Memphis and Texas Tech.
Last season Martin-Scott totaled 42 tackles with 10 1/2 tackles for loss and 3 1/2 sacks.
