Kornblut Report: Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins update. Gamecocks offer Oregon DB commitment

Gaffney defensive tackle Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins posted on his Instagram Friday night where things stand in his recruiting.

Ingram-Dawkins in a live video listed South Carolina and Tennessee as his favorites, Georgia as a contender and Alabama as a dark horse. Virginia Tech and North Carolina were eliminated from his previous short list.

Ingram-Dawkins nearly made a commitment at mid-summer but he backed off that and has continued to breakdown the contenders.

“First off, I want to make sure I’m going to be getting into the game,” Ingram-Dawkins said in July. “And I want to make sure I’m getting a good education also. There’s no favorite. I just want to look at everything about the school, see what’s around it and all that type of stuff.”

Over the course of the summer, Ingram-Dawkins has seen his stock improve in the 247Sports Composite despite not attending any of the recent evaluation camps. He’s listed as a four-star and ranked as the No. 1 prospect in the state for the 2021 class.

Gamecocks offer JUCO defensive back

Continuing to scour the market for immediate help for the secondary in the 2021 class, USC on Thursday offered Jadarrius Perkins of Mississippi Gulf Coast Junior College.

Perkins (6-2, 185) is a native of Hattiesburg, Mississippi and has been committed to Oregon since May 29. But the Gamecocks reached out to him recently and then followed up with the offer, and he’s receptive to the overtures.

“A couple of the staff have been following me for a while,” Perkins said. “I mean, I take every offer as a blessing. It really is one. I feel like it’s always great and a real confidence booster, to make you feel good, by being recognized by these great programs.”

Perkins also holds offers from Alabama, Auburn, Arizona, Florida, Texas A&M, Memphis, Liberty, Southern Miss, Maryland, FAU, Arkansas, Missouri, Washington State, West Virginia, Central Florida, Ole Miss, Louisville, Texas Tech, Baylor and Mississippi State. USC defensive coordinator and secondary coach Travaris Robinson is the one trying to make the Gamecocks a factor with Perkins.

“Coach T-Rob is the coach I’m talking to and he just says he likes my ability to play man coverage and I’m really long and athletic,” Perkins said. “Also, I can really run and he thinks I’m the type of player that can come in and make an impact right away.”

Despite all the attention from other major programs, Perkins said he’s still holding to his Oregon pledge at this point.

“All I can say is that I’m a Duck, but I will be taking a few other visits, maybe,” Perkins said. Might the Gamecocks get one? “Oh yeah, for sure they will.”

Perkins is ranked the No. 3 cornerback nationally in junior college in the 247Sports Composite. Last season as a freshman, Perkins played in nine games and totaled 20 tackles with three passes broken up on an undefeated national championship team.

USC baseball lands a commitment

South Carolina gained a commitment from 2025 INF/OF Eli Pitts (5-10 155) of Suwanee, Georgia. He’s not yet 14 years old.

He was named to the Perfect Game 13U National Showcase Top Prospect List. Here’s a PG scouting report on Pitts: “Medium athletic build with the beginnings of some present strength and room for plenty more. Very good runner, 7.10 in the sixty. Shows good quickness and range in the middle infield on defense, rounds the ball well with good footwork, 3/4’s arm slot with a good quick release, has middle infield defensive actions and athleticism. Right handed hitter, hits from an open stance with a hard dive to his front side that is hard to time consistently, swings hard and with intent, can get jump off the barrel when he’s timed up, projects well as a hitter.”

USC target picks Ole Miss

USC defensive end target DeMarcus Smith (6-4 262) of Birmingham announced a commitment to Ole Miss Friday. He narrowed his decision to USC, Tennessee, Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Kansas.
