Two teams tied at top for OL target Will Putnam

Offensive lineman Will Putnam of Harrisburg, NC, remains fixed with two schools at this point: South Carolina and Virginia Tech.

And it looks like no decision will come from him until July. Putnam visited North Carolina on Saturday for the Heels’ Freak Show but said neither the Tar Heels nor anyone else have stepped up with an offer, so he’s set to choose between the Gamecocks and Hokies.

Putnam attended USC’s Gamecock Showcase camp earlier this month and visited Virginia Tech last week. He still plans to visit USC again with his parents before he makes his final decision. With the dead period kicking in June 29, it’s not likely Putnam will make it to Columbia until sometime in July.

The Gamecocks were out front for Putnam after his camp visit, but Virginia Tech pulled even after his visit there last week, and on Wednesday he said that remains unchanged.

“Tied after my trip to VT last week,” Putnam said.

▪  Wide receiver Brad Hawkins of Camden, N.J., released a top 10 on Wednesday that included USC. He visited for the Gamecock Showcase this month. Hawkins has not set a decision date.
