LB Donta Evans plans USC visit with offer in mind

Linebacker Donta Evans is seeing things starting to pick up with South Carolina.

The Orangeburg native and former Lake Marion standout now living in Lawrenceville, Ga. Evans (6-3, 230) has not been offered by the Gamecocks, but that could change next month when he visits for the Gamecocks’ social gathering of prospects on July 24.

“I’ve been talking with Coach Mangus and the new defensive coordinator and Coach Botkin,” Evans said. “They’ve been general conversations, not too much about football.”

The tone, no doubt, would change with an offer.

“I’ve been around South Carolina my whole life,” he said. “I’ve spent 16 years here. It’s home. I’ve been to numerous, numerous, countless amount of games. I know the facilities and I know the city of Columbia. I’d definitely give them a good look.”

Right now Evans likes Auburn, Kentucky, Ole Miss, Arkansas, Missouri, Louisville and NC State the most. He has visited NC State, Ole Miss, Arkansas, Missouri, Mississippi State and Louisville and wants to see more of the schools that have offered. North Carolina, Wake Forest, Illinois, Virginia and Cincinnati are some of the other offers.
