USC WR target Brad Hawkins commits to Michigan

Wide receiver Brad Hawkins Jr. of Camden, NJ, on Friday announced a commitment to Michigan. Hawkins had narrowed his decision to the Wolverines and South Carolina.

His decision comes a little more than a week after his teammate DE Ron Johnson Jr. committed to Michigan. Johnson also was heavily recruited by USC. Both players attended USC’s Showcase camp last month.

Hawkins on Thursday said that one of the positives for him with Michigan was his relationship with new head coach Jim Harbaugh. Hawkins said he had talked on multiple occasions with Harbaugh, while his only conversation with USC coach Steve Spurrier took place at the camp. Hawkins had been in regular contact with USC recruiters GA Mangus and Steve Spurrier Jr.

Despite the commitment to the Wolverines, Hawkins said this week he will take other official visits in the fall and USC is likely to receive one of those.

Hawkins’ commitment is the first of two this weekend that will impact USC. On Saturday, LB Kash Daniel of Paintsville, Ky., will announce his choice with USC, Kentucky and Louisville the finalists.
