Quarterback Dylan Lonergan of Snellville, Georgia has made several recruiting visits to South Carolina. He made his most recent one last weekend as one of the 13 official visitors Shane Beamer welcomed to hang out with his extended football family.

Lonergan (6-2, 215) has grown close to Beamer and offensive coordinator-quarterbacks coach Marcus Satterfield through the recruiting process, and he and his family got more of that family feeling from Beamer and Satterfield.

“I think it was very positive,” Dylan’s father Dan Lonergan said. “Coach Beamer and coach Satterfield, the staff did a great job. It was a really good group of kids they brought in. Obviously, they’ve been pretty successful with a few commitments already that I saw. I thought they did a great job, rolled out the red carpet for the group. I know Dylan really enjoyed the experience. He’s been around the staff a lot, but he got an opportunity to really get to know some of the other recruits, and also his player-host was Braden Davis, so he got to meet a number of the players as well.”

Dan Lonergan said he and his son did not go into the official visit looking to turn over new rocks of insight and information on the program. They have a great sense of South Carolina’s pitch for his son. The official visit was more about confirming everything they had learned about the Gamecocks.

“I think it was just reaffirmation of what we already knew, and more of an opportunity to meet recruits and existing players,” Dan Lonergan said. “That was kind of the biggest take away from the weekend. In terms of setting a date (July 5 announcement), he had intended to do it late June, early July. We had talked about that for the last month, and he just thought it would be good to put a date to it. It just happens to be his uncle’s birthday, so I thought that was a cool date for him.”

Dylan Lonergan also is a big-time baseball prospect and is expected to be a high draft pick next summer. He plans to play both sports in college. He has met in the past with USC coach Mark Kingston, but they did not have the time to get over to baseball on this most recent trip.

The Lonergans are busy this month with baseball, with stops across North Carolina and Florida. The final football official visit to Stanford starts June 24.

The decision is down to USC, Stanford and Alabama. They took an official visit to Alabama June 3 and continue to hear from the staff there.

“It’s been great. They’ve been fantastic as well,” Dan Lonergan said. “Really good feedback. They’ve been terrific as well.”

Ohio State and Florida were also heavily involved with Lonergan, but he won’t have time for official visits to either prior to his announcement. He did have a multi-day official visit to Ohio State in April, but without the official visit the Buckeyes will not be a factor in the final decision.
