Recruiting roundup: Gamecocks host elite offensive tackle prospect
South Carolina played host to one of the nation’s top offensive tackles in the 2017 class Saturday in Isaiah Wilson of Brooklyn, N.Y.
He and two teammates, offensive lineman Justin Morgan and linebacker Elias Reynolds, were observers at the Gamecocks’ camp staged on the practice fields across from Williams-Brice Stadium. (Morgan and Reynolds are both Rutgers commitments.)
Wilson visited Clemson on Thursday but only because he has an uncle in Anderson. The Tigers are not part of his top 10, which consists of USC, Auburn, Alabama, Nebraska, Rutgers, Ohio State, Michigan, Miami, Florida State and Maryland. Wilson said all of those schools would offer him “academics, big time football, the ability to play around family or go really far away and get the same big time football and big time academics.”
Wilson said he saw much to like about USC during his time on campus.
“They have a great community,” he said. “Everyone around here is very friendly. It also helps my uncle is here and I have family around here, about 10 minutes away from the campus.”
Wilson said conference affiliation doesn’t matter to him when it comes down to making a decision. He plans to visit those schools in his top 10 that he hasn’t seen. He’d like to make his decision next summer or at the 2017 Under Armour All American Game.
