South Carolina hometown WR target Donovan Murph previews this week’s commitment reveal
Irmo High School wide receiver Donovan Murph is in Orlando this week for the Under Armour All-America Game. It’s during that game Thursday that he plans to make his college commitment public.
Murph will have hats on the table: South Carolina, Clemson, Colorado and Ole Miss.
Based on reporting by Paul Strelow of TigerIllustrated earlier in the month, Clemson is no longer a factor with Murph. Most of the predictions from recruiting observers have him picking South Carolina.
At the game’s hotel check-in on Sunday, Murph did a video interview with Chad Simmons of On3 and expressed his feelings about the upcoming major moment in his life.
“It’s a bitter-sweet moment,” Murph explained. “I grew up watching the All-American game. When I finally got the call that I was going to be in the game and I was going to be able to commit at the game, it was a dream come true. I’m a little nervous to make the decision because a lot of people are talking, but I’m excited for me and my family and just blessed to be in this position.”
Murph declared on Oct. 1 that he would move up a year to the 2025 class, and that changed the intensity of his recruitment. He made official visits in November to USC and Clemson.
He had a big final season at Irmo with 96 catches for 1,328 yards and 12 touchdowns.
If he picks South Carolina, he’ll be the sixth wide receiver signee in the 2025 recruiting class. The Gamecocks in early December signed Malik Clark, Lex Cyrus, Jordon Gidron, Brian Rowe and Jayden Sellers.
Murph has made his final decision and shared what it was about that particular program that led him to choose it over the others.
“It really came down to who was consistent, who stayed with me,” Murph said. “Who stayed with me and kept talking to me, no matter with my reclassification, no matter with me going up, they still felt like I could make an impact early and just play. I’m excited and my family is excited. They stayed true to me as a player and stayed true to my family as well. It all plays a big role in my commitment and I’m just excited to make my decision.”
