NJ receiver will visit USC a week before he picks school
Wide receiver Kelvin Harmon of Palmyra, N.J. said Sunday night he has set Oct. 1 for his announcement which he will hold at his school. Harmon also said he will take an official visit to USC and is looking at Sept. 25 for that visit. That's the weekend the Gamecocks host Central Florida.
Harmon talked with USC recruiter G.A. Mangus Sunday. "He was just telling me they need me down there at South Carolina," Harmon said. "He's been keeping it straight with me. Coach Spurrier Jr. said he's recruiting me to play right away at the X (wide receiver)." Harmon attended two camps at USC this summer.
Harmon has also talked recently with his recruiters from NC State, Temple, North Carolina and Rutgers. West Virginia is the sixth school on his list. Harmon said right now all six are even and he plans to name a top three later this month.
Other weekend notes
▪ USC offered LB Ben Davis, of Gordo, Al. He's one of the nation's top prospects and is projected to sign with Alabama.
▪ 2017 Defensive back Josh Brown of Fairburn, Ga. visited USC Saturday. The Gamecocks were the first to offer him.
▪ Saturday was the first day committed players planning to enroll early could sign the financial aid agreement (FAA). This commits the school to the player but not vice-versa and a player can sign a FAA with multiple schools. Three USC commitments planning to enroll early, wide receiver Bryan Edwards, running back C.J. Freeman and defensive back Chris Smith, said they had not signed a FAA with the Gamecocks at this point.
