Academics update: Toure Boyd, Devante Covington
It appears South Carolina will go one for two with the two junior college signees waiting for admission to school.
Defensive Toure Boyd of Chaffey College in California appears to be in good shape to be admitted soon to the university, a source indicated Monday. Boyd suggested via Twitter that he was flying out of California on Tuesday.
Defensive end Devante Covington of Georgia Military College, however, appears likely not to make it in, according to his coach.
“Unless a miracle happens, he’s not going to get one of his classes this summer,” GMC coach Bert Williams said. “Grades aren’t due until tomorrow (Tuesday). I’ve got to get a final word from the staff there at Carolina and see what they would like to do and we’ll advise him from there.”
Williams said his offensive lineman who committed to USC last month, Akeem Cooperwood, has his weight down to between 335-340 pounds. He won’t graduate until next spring. And his defensive end who was a previous commitment to the Gamecocks, Kalan Ritchie, is looking good with his grades to be a mid-year graduate. Williams said both sides remain committed to each other.
