Tight end has Florida State visit lined up before coming to USC

The University of South Carolina has been recruiting tightend Naseir Upshur of Philadelphia for a long time and this weekend he will make another visit to the campus along with his father and two brothers. But before getting to Columbia, Upshur will visit Florida State Friday.

The Gamecocks and Seminoles are two of his final eight along with Maryland, Temple, Arizona State, Southern Cal, Alabama and Michigan.

Upshur first visited USC for last year's Georgia game. He and recruiter GA Mangus have developed a tight relationship, and his former teammate running back David Williams is going into his third season in the program.

"He's a big brother and I talk to him like every day," Upshur said of Williams. "He's pushed for me to come to South Carolina."

Florida State recently lost a tight end commitment in Isaac Nauta, so the Seminoles are expected to make a strong push for Upshur Friday.

"At Florida State, I just want to see everything," he said adding he's interested in seeing how the new construction around USC looks. He's also looking forward to catching up with Mangus while he's there overnight Saturday.

"He's been strong the whole ride," Upshur said. "He's showed me a lot of love."

USC will get one of Upshur's official visits this fall. He also plans to visit Arizona State, Michigan and Florida State for official visits. He plans to wait until Signing Day to reveal a decision.
