Gamecocks keeping up with WR Cavin Ridley

Wide receiver Cavin Ridley of Deerfield Beach, Fla., camped at USC this summer along with North Carolina, Tennessee, Ohio State, Georgia and Auburn. The Gamecocks also are one of his official offers along with Florida, Alabama and Tennessee.

Ridley (6-2, 200), whose brother Calvin is a receiver at Alabama, has been in touch with USC receivers coach Steve Spurrier Jr.

“South Carolina is a nice place,” Ridley said. “I know that they are lacking receivers. That’s what I’m really looking for in a school, a school that needs help in receivers. I see that South Carolina really needs a little help and that’s why I want to take an official visit there to see what they have to offer, so I might take an official visit there, I’m not really sure yet.”

Ridley said Spurrier Jr. has been selling him on the idea of early playing time at USC, and he’s confident he could contribute early.

“I’m a playmaker and I can go in and be a playmaker and I think he believes that, too,” Ridley said.

Ridley said he’s looking at making a decision sometime after the season and might even wait until the Under Armour game to announce. Last season he had 1,500 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns.
