USC defensive end commit weighing other options
Defensive end Jordan Smith of Lithonia, Ga., has been committed to South Carolina since July. With the Gamecocks’ staff in transition, Smith is looking around, his coach confirmed Monday.
Smith was at Tennessee on Saturday when the Vols played the Gamecocks. Lithonia coach Marcus Jelks said Smith might not stick with his pledge.
“I’m not really sure,” Jelks said. “He’s still kind of looking around. He graduates in December, and with the uncertainty about who the guy will be, he’s looking around to make sure he makes the right decision.”
Tennessee, Florida and Mississippi State have been in contact with Smith, according to Jelks. He also talked with USC recruiter Lorenzo Ward a couple of weeks ago. Jelks said Smith has not scheduled an official visit with the Gamecocks at this point.
“Nobody has really reached out,” he said, adding he thinks Smith will take official visits to Tennessee, Florida and Mississippi State.
Meantime, the Gamecocks on Monday offered Class of 2017 tight end Alexander Marshall of Andover, NH.
