USC commitment still waiting to hear from new coaches

Linebacker JaCorey Morris of Grove Hill, Ala., has been committed to South Carolina since August, but he doesn’t know if he figures into the plans of the new coaching staff, his coach said Wednesday.

Coach Keith Kelly said he talked Tuesday with former Gamecocks linebackers coach Kirk Botkin, who recruited Morris (6-3, 220) to USC, in an effort to reach Will Muschamp, but to no avail at this point.

“We haven’t heard from them,” Kelly said. “He’s turned down Ole Miss and Southern Miss to come to South Carolina, so hopefully they will respect his scholarship.”

Kelly is hopeful he and Morris will hear from USC soon so they can know in which direction they should move. Morris has not scheduled any official visits.

▪  USC on Wednesday offered DL D’Andre Christmas-Giles of New Orleans. He just decommitted from Tennessee. Florida also jumped in with an offer.

▪  USC on Wednesday offered DE Joshua Uche (6-2 212) of Miami. Some of his other offers are Florida, Miami, Auburn, Alabama and North Carolina.

▪  USC DB target Daniel Thomas of Montgomery, Ala., was offered by Georgia Tech.

▪  Class of 2017 WR Jerry Jeudy of Deerfield Beach, Fla., has USC in his current top 10. The others are Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Ohio State, Tennessee and West Virginia.
