Dutch Fork athlete Stephen Davis Jr. does not have to be introduced to new South Carolina coach Will Muschamp or his defensive coordinator Travaris Robinson.

He knows both of them from their short stay at Auburn.

They weren’t at Auburn in August 2014 when he committed to the Tigers, but once they arrived there from Florida they picked right up on his recruiting. The fact that Davis decommitted from Auburn in September is not a reflection on the two coaches because Davis was excited to hear from them once they arrived in Columbia.

“I know them well,” Davis said. “They really want me bad. They’re making a new era at South Carolina and all that. They are actually bringing in a nice recruiting program. I think they are starting something big at South Carolina. It’s pretty nice that they are down here.”

Davis has set an official visit with the Gamecocks for the weekend of Jan. 22. He’s going to Auburn officially the weekend prior to that. He also plans to take official visits to Georgia and Florida State. Auburn recruiter Rodney Garner was the only one to make an in-home visit during the live period.

Davis said he won’t make his decision until after his visits.

“I’ll take my officials and see who really wants me the most,” he said.

He won’t reveal his decision until National Signing Day on Feb. 3.

Davis played mostly safety in high school, though he was moved to running back in the early part of this past season. He suffered a season-ending knee injury in the third game of the season. He believes Muschamp likes him for defense.
