Defensive end Tyreic Martin of Valley, Ala., was one of those Will Muschamp targets at Auburn the new South Carolina coach quickly offered when he came to Columbia.

The offer made Martin sit up and take notice of the Gamecocks, something he had not previously done. In fact, Muschamp has been able to nail down a Jan. 15 official visit from Martin, who decommitted from Missouri last week.

“Coach Muschamp recruited me from Auburn, but he didn’t get a chance to offer,” Martin said. “He’s an enthusiastic coach. He’s always hyped and ready, one of the best coaches in the country.”

Martin (6-3, 270) is down to USC, Missouri and Indiana and will visit those two the final two weekends in January. He’s hoping to find what he’s looking for in a school during one of those three official visits.

“I want to see what the educational part looks like. Does it feel like home and will I be comfortable wherever I’m at?” said Martin, who still calls Missouri his favorite despite the decommitment.

This season Martin had 52 tackles and seven sacks.
