South Carolina offers, has attention of ex-Indiana commit

Former Indiana commitment Allen Cater (defensive end, 6-foot-5, 240 pounds) of Kennesaw, Ga., picked up an offer from South Carolina on Tuesday and scheduled an official visit with the Gamecocks for Jan. 22.

He has taken official visits to Arkansas and Indiana and will visit North Carolina. The offer from the Gamecocks is kind of game changer with Cater.

"I've been talking to Coach Robinson and the outside linebackers coach and they have been saying they want me to come up and visit and I pretty much fit in with their defense," Cater said. "I fit the three things they are looking for: energy, effort and being positive."

Robinson got back with Will Muschamp after talking with Cater on Monday and that conversation resulted in Muschamp signing off on the offer. In fact, he called Cater with the offer Tuesday afternoon.

"I like South Carolina and the tradition there," Cater said. "Coach Muschamp brings a lot to the table and it's definitely an eye opener with it being close to home."
