Gamecocks showing interest in committed instate QB
South Carolina has been considering taking a second quarterback in the 2016 class to go along with Brandon McIlwain.
At one time the Gamecocks were talking with Spartanburg’s Austin Scott, but he’s not heard from them recently and has set visits with Elon for this weekend and Eastern Kentucky on Jan. 22. The Gamecocks are now in communication with Steven Duncan (6-5, 233) of Ashley Ridge High in Charleston.
Duncan currently is committed to Western Kentucky. While he said he feels very strong about that pledge right now, he’s willing to talk to any schools that want to visit with him.
Duncan said USC assistants Kurt Roper and Shawn Elliott are scheduled to visit with him at his school Friday morning. Duncan said he’s interested in hearing what the coaches have to say to him and to find out how he might fit in with Roper’s offense.
He said the USC coaches want to size him up in person and he’s not sure if an offer or an official visit will come from the meeting. He is scheduled to visit Western Kentucky on Jan. 22.
Duncan grew up in Greenville before moving to Charleston and said he’s actually been a lifelong Clemson fan.
This season he passed for 1,632 yards and 13 touchdowns.
