Instate DB Nick McCloud won’t visit Gamecocks this weekend

Defensive back Nick McCloud of South Pointe was considering an official visit to South Carolina this weekend, but he said Friday afternoon he will not take it.

He received a visit from his recruiter Bobby Bentley on Friday morning. McCloud has not been offered by the Gamecocks.

McCloud has visited NC State and is scheduled to visit Georgia Tech Jan. 22.

Daniel Thomas set to visit

Defensive back Daniel Thomas of Montgomery, Ala., is set for his official visit to USC this weekend, but on Thursday he met with Clemson secondary coach Mike Reed. The Gamecocks offered Thomas soon after Will Muschamp took over, while Clemson made its offer last week.

“I was excited,” Thomas said of the Clemson offer. “I think they would fit me perfectly. They run the defense I like to play in, that I’ve mostly played in, the one high safety. They run a lot of man free. They want me in the middle of the field.”

Thomas is scheduled to visit Maryland next weekend and Clemson the final weekend of the month. He’s also considering Auburn for a visit. He said there is no favorite and he’ll wait until after his visits before making his decision.

USC target back on market

USC tight Pro Wells announced Friday morning that he is no longer committed to Marshall. Wells had an in-home visit with Iowa State on Thursday. He visits UCF this weekend.

▪  Coaches from USC and UNC met with DE Allen Cater of Kennesaw, Ga., Thursday. He has visited Arkansas and Indiana and will visit North Carolina this weekend. He will visit USC Jan. 22.

▪  USC defensive coordinator Travaris Robinson met Thursday with DB Kristian Fulton of Metairie, La. Fulton will take an official visit to LSU this weekend. He’s looking at USC or Arkansas for Jan. 22 and Florida on Jan. 29.

▪  USC DE target Jordan Woods of Citra, Fla., had a in-home visit with Tennessee Thursday. He will visit Georgia Tech this weekend.

▪  USC DB target J.J. Givens of Mechanicsville, Va., had an in-home with N.C. State Thursday. He is scheduled to visit Miami this weekend.

▪  WR Kiel Pollard of Moultrie, Ga., met with his Arkansas recruiter Thursday. He will visit USC this weekend. He is committed to the Razorbacks.

▪  WR Sam Bruce of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., is set to make an official visit to USC this, weekend his father confirmed Thursday night. Bruce has visited Ohio State. He will visit Florida Jan. 22 and Miami on the 29th. He is a Miami commitment, and his Hurricanes recruiter was in to see him Thursday.

▪  USC Thursday offered 2017 DB Quentin Montgomery of Jacksonville.

▪  USC Thursday offered 2017 DB Brad Stewart Jr. of New Orleans.

▪  DB Malek Young of Coconut Creek, Fla., has canceled a scheduled visit to Clemson this weekend according to 247Sports. He is scheduled to visit Miami and USC. He has been to Ohio State.

▪  USC Wednesday offered 2017 DL Eric Crosby of Virginia Beach, VA.

▪  USC Wednesday offered 2017 RB Devan Burnett of Tampa.

▪  Class of 2017 DL Anthony Barcal of Illinois will visit USC this month.
