Question: How does this staff stack up with the HBC staff regards to recruiting?
Answer: Too soon to tell. Remember the previous staff did a lot of good things in recruiting. They had some staff erosion and lost some good recruiters and perhaps didn’t replace them with guys who were as good. I will say from top to bottom this looks like a staff committed to recruiting hard, and it starts with the head coach.
Q: How would you rate the job WM has done with his first recruiting class at USC?
A: He and the staff have done an outstanding job to get involved with some really good players, especially several who were committed other places.
Q: Who would you say is the biggest sleeper in this year’s class?
A: I don’t know about sleeper but I really like linebacker T.J. Brunson. I think he is mentally and physically ready to step in and help next season.
Q: Why are we recruiting two QBs?
A: You can never have enough good ones you think you can win with.
Q: I hear everyone say certain coaches are “good recruiters,” but how much of that is because they were recruiting where it’s much easier to recruit (i.e. LSU, Alabama, Auburn, Florida)? I mean, those guys weren’t recruiting to East Carolina.
A: Obviously, some places are easier to recruit to than others but recruiting is about four things: preparation, hard work, contacts and personality. You have all those things on the positive side and you can be a good recruiter.
