Maryland commit visits USC, says final decision ‘up in the air’
Defensive tackle Aaron Thompson of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., arrived at South Carolina for his official visit this weekend as a Maryland commitment. He left with his final decision up in the air.
Thompson (6-3, 250) said he’ll now have a signing day decision between the Gamecocks and the Terrapins.
“It went great,” Thompson said of his visit. “The students, they’ve really got a lot of pride. It’s chill up there. The coaches and facilities are cool, really nice. Coach Muschamp told me I was a versatile player who play inside, the three technique, but athletic enough to play across the line. They definitely want me.”
Thompson said his announcement will come around 11 a.m. Wednesday on National Signing Day.
He visited Maryland earlier in the month and committed there last week. USC defensive coordinator Travaris Robinson followed up with Thompson with a phone call Sunday night.
“They are pretty evenly matched,” Thompson said Sunday night of USC and Maryland. “The only thing that’s different is Maryland is Big 10 and South Carolina is in the SEC. I prefer the SEC. But things are pretty evenly matched right now. I’m still thinking about it and talking with my mom and uncle. Maryland has the best opportunity to play early, but Coach Muschamp told me I can play all across the line.”
