Commitment to Gamecocks could come soon from instate defensive end
It’s commitment watch time for defensive end Tyreek Johnson of Lakewood High in Sumter.
Johnson (6-4, 245) will visit USC on Saturday, and he said a commitment is possible at that time. Johnson was offered a week ago by USC coach Will Muschamp and as a lifelong Gamecock fan, it was the offer he was awaiting.
Johnson said he did not commit right then because his parents want to talk to the coaches, and he would prefer to commit in person.
“It was a pretty exciting moment for me to get an offer from a SEC school,” Johnson said. “I was very excited and it was a very important point in my life. He said I’ve got very good grades, and on the field I’m physical and have good feet and am very good off the ball.”
Notes
▪ 2016 defensive end Josiah Coatney (6-5, 285) of Holmes (Miss.) JC was offered by USC last week and will take an official visit March 19. He’s also planning to visit Alabama, Ole Miss and Florida. Coatney said he has a lot of family in the Columbia area, and plans to announce a commitment April 26.
▪ According to Loganville, Ga., Grayson High assistant coach Kenyatta Watson, 2016 defensive end Mykelle McDaniel (6-4, 255) rescheduled his USC official visit for March 19. McDaniel also plans to visit Alabama. He’s been to Mississippi State officially. McDaniel has been a big lean to USC.
