JUCO defensive end Josiah Coatney recaps official visit to USC

South Carolina is hoping to add to the incoming 2016 class with one or two more defensive players and two targets made official visits over the weekend.

Defensive ends Josiah Coatney (6-5, 285) and Mykelle McDaniel (6-4, 240) visited Will Muschamp and the Gamecocks, and both have other visits planned.

Coatney, from Holmes Community College in Mississippi, said they had the chance to see the campus and facilities and watch spring practice, and everything checked out on the positive side with him.

“I got to see what they were looking like depth-wise,” Coatney said. “I got to talk with Coach Muschamp about what they are looking for and what they are looking for out of me. He said he needed me. He wants to win now. Overall though, it was a great trip. I enjoyed myself a lot.”

Coatney said he and McDaniel, from of Loganville, Ga., hung out together with other members of the defense. The two of them got to know one another knowing they could be teammates at USC one day.

“He said he’s looking at some other schools, too, but he said he enjoyed it a lot,” Coatney said. “We had a good time hanging out with all the players.”

Coatney doesn’t plan to make a decision until the first week in April. This week he’s planning to take an unofficial visit to Mississippi State. He is going to Ole Miss officially April 1, Florida April 8 and Alabama April 15. He’s not claiming a favorite at this point.

McDaniel has been to Georgia unofficially and is going to visit Texas A&M next weekend. Alabama has also shown interest in him. McDaniel has had USC and Georgia as his top two.
