He’s been called the top prospect available in this year’s transfer class, and this weekend point guard Kory Holden, formerly of Delaware, will make an official visit to South Carolina.

It’s the first visit for the 6-foot-2 Holden since announcing his plans to transfer. Gamecocks coach Frank Martin has been very active in recruiting him since making himself available, Holden said.

“I talk to Coach Martin everyday,” he said. “He’s been keeping up with me every day, showing a lot of love, definitely. I run the pick and roll well and he thinks I can come in and do that and help the team score and help the team in general. Coach Martin, I think, is a good coach, a coach who will actually coach you, and I like that about him.”

Holden is a native of Salisbury, Md., and and a friend of his is USC pitcher Canaan Cropper. As he goes through the recruiting process again, Holden is perhaps looking for some things he didn’t find at Delaware.

“I’m looking for the best situation to get me to where I need to be and whoever can help me prepare to take care of my family,” he said.

Holden is also set to take an unofficial visit to Seton Hall April 19 and an official visit to Baylor April 29. He does not have a timetable for a decision.

Last season as a sophomore, Holden averaged 18 points per game, shooting 80 percent from the line and 39 percent from three-point range. He will have to sit out next season and will have two seasons to play.
