South Carolina is going hard after Class of 2017 defensive back Tre Shaw of Ellenwood, Ga., and has worked its way into good position with him at this point.

Shaw (6-0, 180) is sought after as a corner and a nickel but can also play safety. He’s also playing running back in high school and returning punts and kicks.

“They are very interested in me and I’m very interested in them,” Shaw said of the Gamecocks. “I think it’s great program and they are developing as a team and a program right now with a new coaching staff.”

USC defensive coordinator and secondary coach Travaris Robinson is heading up Shaw’s recruiting and has told him how he envisions him helping out his group.

“He said I will fit very well in their scheme,” he said. “I can come in and start, basically, and get a fair amount of playing time if I come there because they need help on the defensive side. He said that I can do it all, that I can play any position on the defensive side. I’ve always been a fan of Coach T-Rob and Coach Muschamp. I followed them at Auburn. I think they are some great coaches and they have a great chance to change the South Carolina football program.”

Shaw attended the USC spring game. He actually came in the Friday before and stayed with former teammate Bryson Allen-Williams and got a tour of the campus. North Carolina has been his only other visit this spring. He had hoped to visit NC State but that hasn’t taken place. He has not visited Georgia or Georgia Tech recently.

Shaw said he has 26 offers and no short list, but some of the ones he’s most interested in at this point are USC, North Carolina, Auburn, Georgia, NC State, Michigan, Florida and Tennessee. He feels like USC and North Carolina are recruiting the hardest. There’s no timetable on a decision.

Notes

▪  QB Tate Martell (5-11, 203) of Las Vegas currently is committed to Texas A&M but he put on his Twitter feed Monday that he wants to take all five official visits. He has a slew of offers from across the country and has a list of other schools he’d like to see and be offered by, and USC is on that list. He recently visited Ohio State.

▪  ATH Cameron Bent of Bluffton visited Temple last weekend, was at the USC spring game and is going to Georgia Tech this Saturday. Tech is recruiting him as a quarterback.

▪  QB Jelani Woods of Ellenwood, Ga., said USC still plans to recruit him despite his commitment to Oklahoma State on Friday night, a pledge that he calls solid.
