The recruiting bar is rising for South Aiken athlete Tancey Richardson now that South Carolina has reached out and shown interest.

Richardson (5-foot-11, 175 pounds) is a one-time Southern Miss commitment. Mississippi State just recently offered. The Gamecocks have not yet offered, but their increasing interest is a game-changer for Richardson.

"It means a lot," said Richardson, who is being recruited to USC by Bryan McClendon and Travaris Robinson. "I've been waiting to hear from the staff. Now that I finally have contact, it's big. I'm excited. They said they love that I can play multiple positions."

Richardson is expecting the USC recruiters to be by his school soon. He also has offers from Colorado State, Coastal Carolina and Charleston Southern, and he's getting other contact from Arizona State, Memphis, Kentucky, Charlotte, Kent State and Appalachian State.

Last season Richardson had 2,000 all-purpose yards with 24 touchdowns, and on defense he totaled 55 tackles, five interceptions and two forced fumbles.

NOTES

USC on Tuesday offered defensive back Kaleb Oliver (6-foot-3, 170 pounds) of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and defensive back T.J. Carter of Nashville.

USC recently reaffirmed its earlier offer to 6-foot-6 2018 guard Zion Williamson of Spartanburg Day according to the Spartanburg Herald-Journal.
