Former Florida defensive back JC Jackson, now at Riverside City College (Calif.), is one of the top prospects still available in the 2016 recruiting market, and South Carolina is one of the schools he’s considering.

Riverside recruiting coordinator James Kuk said the Gamecocks, along with Maryland and South Florida, are three schools Jackson has been in contact with, and he is taking an official visit to Maryland this weekend. Kuk did not know of any other official visits planned at this point.

Kuk said most of Jackson’s time right now is spent on getting his academics in order.

“He’s trying to finish up this term and transfer in the summer,” Kuk said. “He’s considering his options. Everything is good. He’s in good standing.”

Kuk said Jackson will finish his classes at Riverside in June.

Jackson (6-1, 180) is a native of Immokalee, Fla., and was one of the nation’s top cornerback prospects in the 2014 recruiting season. He signed with Florida, where he was originally recruited by the Will Muschamp staff and redshirted in 2014 due to a shoulder injury.

He was listed as a starter in spring practice of 2015 but was charged that April with four felony counts in connection with a home invasion and robbery. He withdrew from school and in a November trial was found innocent of all charges.

While going through the trial process last fall, Jackson was back and forth between Gainesville and Riverside, so he didn’t play a complete season. He appeared in six games and made 25 tackles, including three for loss. He forced two fumbles and broke up two passes.
