Offensive lineman Riley Locklear of Huntington, W.Va., spent part of Saturday at South Carolina checking out the Gamecocks and getting to know them better.

Locklear (6-5, 295) is one of the top prospects in his state and also has offers from West Virginia, Marshall, Florida State, Penn State, Cal, Louisville, Miami, NC State, Ole Miss, Oregon, Tennessee, Virginia and Virginia Tech. Saturday’s visit was his first with the Gamecocks.

“The visit went very well,” Locklear said. “I enjoyed getting to see and meet Coach (Shawn) Elliott and Coach (Will) Muschamp. The campus was spread out and the academic support was amazing. The facilities were also top notch.”

Elliott and Muschamp also got a chance to size up Locklear in person after earlier evaluations and he apparently passed the eye test.

“Coach Elliott mentioned that he liked how I could run and how athletic I am,” Locklear said. “He liked how he could develop and coach me to be a multi-position player. He also commented that I hold my weight well for 295 pounds.”

Locklear has visited West Virginia, Marshall, Tennessee, Vanderbilt and Auburn this spring.
