Heavily recruited Virginia defender lands Gamecock offer

Defensive end Jordan Williams of Virginia Beach, Va., is one of the most heavily offered prospects in Virginia and South Carolina became his 30th offer Wednesday.

The Gamecocks have some ground to catch up with others who have been involved longer, but Williams was happy to get the offer and will investigate the USC opportunity further.

“I like the fact they are in the SEC,” Williams said. “I also like the scheme they have. From what I can see on TV it allows their defensive linemen to play. I’d like to visit before I can give them a for sure spot (in his top 10). They like my versatility and athleticism.”

Williams said nine of his offers stick out the most to him right now: Clemson, Alabama, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Ohio State, Tennessee, Notre Dame, Southern Cal and Michigan State.

Clemson recruiters Marion Hobby and Brent Venables remain in touch, Williams said. He doesn’t have any visits set moving forward but he plans to check out schools in June and July.

Last season Williams had 55 tackles and 11 sacks. He attends Frank W. Cox High School, the same school that produced USC sophomore offensive lineman Blake Camper.
