Gamecocks commitment reacts to Alabama offer
Defensive end Tyreek Johnson committed to the Gamecocks in April. Not even an offer from national champion Alabama appears to be enough to shake that pledge.
Johnson, from Lakewood High in Sumter, recently picked up an Alabama offer, his coach Brian Jackson said.
“I talked to him today [Thursday] and he said, ‘I’m solid. Spurs Up,’ ” Jackson said.
Johnson is a 6-foot-4, 245-pound defensive end. USC coach Will Muschamp and staff went after him quickly for the 2017 class.
Johnson had 89 tackles with 21 tackles for loss and 10 sacks last season.
