Pendleton DE Brad Johnson enjoyed South Carolina visit

Defensive lineman Brad Johnson of Pendleton was at South Carolina Saturday and said he had a great time on the visit.

He had considered going to Virginia Tech Monday but didn't make it. He's also been looking at Michigan State, Notre Dame and Mississippi State for visits this summer. Other offers are Tennessee, Texas A&M, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Georgia Tech and Duke.

"I'm just looking for the school that has the best overall fit for me academic and football wise. A place where I feel I have the best relationship with the coaches and players . Somewhere I can make an easy transition from high school to college."

Notes

▪  Defensive back Naytron Culpepper of Miami, Fla., released his top seven schools earlier this month and still has USC high up on his list. Culpepper increased his top list to include the Mississippi State Bulldogs when he was offered by them last week.

The others are Michigan State, Utah, Tennessee, Oklahoma State, Arkansas and Louisville. Culpepper said he communicates with defensive backs coach Travaris Robinson and head coach Will Muschamp almost every other week via texts and phone calls. He's made two unofficial visits to USC with the last one occurring in May and does not have any future visits planned as of now.

Culpepper said he's working on scheduling his official visits for his top schools and will make his commitment decision following them. He plans to see how the season goes before picking a specific release date for his decision.

▪  Defensive back Michael Nesbitt of Ft. Lauderdale has USC in his top 10 along with LSU, West Virginia, Auburn, Central Florida, Arkansas, Maryland, Louisville, Kentucky and Pittsburgh.

▪  Cornerback J.C. Jackson officially enrolled at Maryland. The Riverside Community College product was closely linked to USC, but the Gamecocks were unable to take him in because of SEC rules. He started his career at Florida.

▪  Defensive back Zyon Gilbert of Montgomery, Alabama plans to commit soon. He has a USC offer landed in camp in June.
